Grimace
I was in the mood for capturing a youthful attitude of rejection. Why? I do not know.
So, I decided to see what I can do on a hare hide that has been in my studio for a while waiting for paint and attitude.
Started with the eyes. Lately I am attracted to painting eyes. I have painted eyes for tigers, mountain lions and women. Somehow I try to give the eyes an identity no matter if they are the eyes of a tiger or a woman. I suppose I am distilling the message of eyes and ignoring the context .
No matter, this is how the "eyes of the hide" came to life and started looking at me:
The face of a mountain lion with lips the colour of Strawberries & Cream came to mind perhaps because the Wimbledon tennis games are about to start... In that spirit, I wondered if a peacock feather would not be appropriate en lieu of a fancy hat:

Then placed the feather in a symmetrical position:
No, that did not work.
So, I tried a new approach -- using the head of a squirrel instead of a hat. I added hare tails to delineate the face, and a few turquoise stones for colour:
I thought it gave the pouty face a new character.
