Puma in My Living Room
My recent project was to paint, always with a
painting knife and oil paint, a puma face on a hare hide.
I shared the steps in my last posting and asked my
visitors to suggest if the puma should have ears or not. (http://vaheark.blogspot.com/2018/09/listening-with-my-eyes.html)
I received a number of comments about the ears. The
most frequent statement was “the ears
make this puma unusual.” Well, for a
person who finds no comfort in the usual, it was music to my ears.
Next, I needed a matting and frame worthy of this
unusual animal. Here is the work in progress:
It ended up being a tree layer matting with carve
outs where a stone arrow head is placed.
So, there is my puma, which for some looks like a
mountain lion which, of course, is of the puma family. In fact, Arizona has a
large population of mountain lions and many of us have seen or encountered one
when in the high desert.
Here is a warning sign which is not unusually seen
by hikers:
So, my mountain lion has blue eyes, ears made of
jackrabbit tails and has a piercing look, although not immediately aggressive.
I think it is a mountain lion that fits comfortably
in my living room, above the fireplace.
