Furmatting: A Departure from Traditional Frame Matting
I have framed possibly thousands of my photos. Often
I cut my own mats to fit a theme or a perspective. The materials I frequently use
are derived from paper, some plant fiber and rarely wood.
I have never used fur as matting. So, I decided to
try it.
… After preserving the hide of a hare, I decided on
a photo I had taken in Barcelona and cut the hide to fit parts of the photo. I
used a poster cut-out as background to fit the pensive mood of the model. To
me, she does seem to think of someone and the old-fashioned letter envelope on
that poster fits the mood.
I like the texture of the finished product. I will
experiment on different ways of trimming the future hides.
Meanwhile, maybe the term I created, Furmatting, will go viral on the Internet!
