Jealousy
Sometimes it is inevitable for one to not be influenced by other works of art. The theme a jealousy was on my mind when I sat down to paint on this cottontail hide. The first few touches of my brush showed a flaming reddish-orange hair. Perfect for jealousy.
Then a woman appeared, with an allegoric body and a facial expression I have seen before when people put up a pleasant face but harbor unkind feelings. Ok, she will represent jealousy.
But jealous of what? Of whom?
I wanted clear, simple and parsimonious lines to depict the object of her jealousy. I have seen the paintings of Vietnamese women where a few lines were used by the artist. So, from memory, I imitated those lines.
